10/02/2005: "Bluegrass at the Monroe Home"
Yes, it's that time of year.... Bluegrass time in Ohio County, out by Rosine, birthplace of Bill Monroe...
I heard all the bluegrass I cared to hear today. I can sing bluegrass, but hubby wouldn't let me. He thinks I sound funny when I do. So, it was more kinda like Southern Gospel. Bro. Mike invited me to share some songs during the church event on Jerusalem Ridge.
I know most of the crowd prefers bluegrass music, so I hope they tolerated my style okay. Plus I didn't play an instrument, but sang with recorded accompaniment. But... it being church service, to the glory of God, perhaps somebody was blessed through the music.
Bro. Mike turned on really well for the crowd. I mean, he preached! It's so great to worship out in the country elements of Kentucky.
Now if the bickering between the hayward and campbell sides can stop and the celebration continue.... The legacy is supposed to be not only the music, but that the man turned his life to Jesus. Where is the evidence of those who want to further his legacy?
Well, there was no bickering during the festival, only people upon people from all over the country here to share their love of bluegrass music. I'm trying to be polite and not hurt anybody's feelings, but I really don't like bluegrass singing because it sounds to me like hollering through the nose. I mean, I can do it, but I don't like the sound. The picking, though, of the fiddles and mandolins and guitars, etc., is fantastic.
I remember when the event was held in OBO in the late 70's and early 80's. I would take my guitar and sit and pick and grin with the best of them! It is fun, but I kinda let the hubby select when and where I go these days. That's another story. And not a sad one.
