06/10/2007: "~ Health Update ~"
For those of you concerned about my health and testing.......
The Brain MRI was "boring" except for a couple of white spots that DR said are indicative of nothing at all, and a "fallen leaf" pattern on the cerebellum, which may affect balance, and could be genetic or caused by taking three times to learn not to drink.
The EEG revealed a couple of things. One was that during panic state of hyperventilation, brain activity deviated from normal and indicated a few one second to two second seizure type activities, but not to be concerned about at this point, although a repeat EEG will be done with limited hyperventilation and sleep deprivation to see if ..... well, the second thing was during panic, pulse INCREASED to 60 bpm, but during relaxation was a fairly steady 40 bpm. Okay, now, the repeat EEG is to see if it goes lower during sleep. Also, I will be wearing a Holter Monitor, with results going to the heart doctor. This bradychardia (low heart rate) is likely due to my Toprol-XL which I take for PAT-SVT (heart failure) and hypertensive elevation during exercise. Since menopause and several years have changed my body, it most likely indicates a decrease in the amount of Toprol-XL or a change in heart medicine.
This is most interesting, because my family doctor, upon my complaint of frequent falls, had asked me about heart problems, and I told him it was under control with the Toprol-XL. So, seems he knew the problem at the outset, but I denied it, simply because I was thinking about the tachychardia and palpitation rather than even considering low heart rate as a problem. I thought it was a good thing. But then I thought 260 bpm happened to everybody, too. Go figger.
Heart doctor's nurse made my appointment and agreed with the treatment so far. Dr had said come back if I had any problems, I just didn't know it was one. This is good news. Very good news. So much easier to know a change in medication for an already identified problem is indicated rather than something else going wrong. Whew! God blesses me daily.
